No Sense of Humor

At least a few of the boaters who keep their vessels docked at Norwalk Cove Marina, home of September’s Norwalk Boat Show in southern Connecticut, must not have much of a sense of humor.

I have to admit that I didn’t read the April Fool’s edition of the marina’s newsletter, but enough of their customers must have been offended enough for the marina’s general manager to issue an apology today (which I received Wednesday afternoon because I subscribe to their newsletter)… I’ve got to admit, the last line made me chuckle, so the original ‘fake’ email must have been quite hilarious if you are into that kind of thing.

The bottom line is, you shouldn’t screw with boaters in New England during the first two weeks of spring after a long, cold winter, and the day after an unpredicted snow squall. Here’s the mea culpa email:

I want to extend an apology for causing any undo concerns
to all our customers, friends and the marina owners for the
April Fools Edition of Harbor Talk that was sent out. I did see
it in advance and I did have concerns about the contents;
however, I also  approved the emailing to everyone.

In hindsight, it was a mistake and not in good taste. For those
of you that are concerned about the contents, be assured there
will be no ferries, fuel is not in the six dollar range, the current service department staff and polices will remain the same, the Boating Club will not have jet skis, the Sailing School will not offer Flair Craft Training, there will not be a Tattoo Parlor and last
but not least there will not be slip reassignments.

My apologies again,

General Manager
Norwalk Cove Marina Inc.
