Nautical Events This Weekend

Got plans this weekend? The chance for rain may keep you off your boat in much of the Northeast, but it doesn’t have to keep you from attending these nautical events… especially the ones that are for a good cause.

In upstate New York, you can see Kenny Loggins perform his greatest hits Friday night, including soundtracks from some of our favorite movies (Top Gun, Caddyshack, come on!), at the Oswego Harborfest, taking place across multiple venues on Lake Ontario and the Oswego River this weekend. You can even attend by boat!

In New England, there are two nautical, charitable events going on:

The Cruise for Life is a rendezvous which the organizers are calling a Boat-A-Thon, this Saturday, July 28th 2012, in Provincetown. Robin Coles, who I see at every boat show I’ve ever been to in New England, will be onboard one of the boats. You can help Robin reach the ultimate goal – a world without cancer – with a donation for her Cruise for Life efforts. Learn more or donate to Robin here.

The Leukemia Cup Power Boat Poker Run is also on Saturday in Niantic, CT, RAIN OR SHINE. Last Year’s Second annual Leukemia Cup Power Boat Poker Run raised over $20,000 to help fight blood cancers, and you can help them exceed that goal this year by participating in or donating to this fun event. The Poker Run is not a race, and is open to boats of all sizes.

Antique boatAlso in Connecticut this weekend (Saturday and Sunday, July 28th and 29th) is the Mystic Seaport Museum’s annual Antique and Classic Boat Rendezvous, which showcases restored antique vessels built before 1970, including cruisers, sailboats, runabouts and launches. Visitors are invited to see the displayed vessels and an award competition will recognize excellence in restoration, authenticity, and workmanship.

If I missed mentioning any events, or if you are attending or organizing a nautical event in the near future, please comment below or send us a note and we’ll add it to the calendar.
