This weekend is full of Father’s Day fishing tournaments around the country, and a few of them are right here in the Northeast. What a great excuse for dad and the kids to get out on the water, do some fishing, and maybe even win a few bucks!

Up on Lake Champlain, there’s the 31st LCI Father’s Day Derby presented by Yamaha. The 2012 edition of this event is boasting nearly 150 awards including 70 places in the species categories, plus another 30 junior places, and over 35 raffles with hundreds of drawings. For more information on this annual tradition, which this year runs Saturday June 16th through Monday June 18th, visit

Another family fun fishing event this weekend is the 2012 Sea Tow Striper Shootout. This fishing tournament is on Long Island Sound on Friday evening and Saturday.  The top 3 anglers win a percentage of the pot, and there are also junior angler prizes for kids 16 and under. Rhode Island

Rhode Island anglers are invited to participate in the Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association (RISAA)’s 15th Annual Take-A-Kid Fishing Day, being held this Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Brewers Greenwich Bay Marina (Warwick, RI). This is a special program that helps get kids out on the water that have never fished or been out on a boat. If you have a boat in the Rhode Island area, this program needs your help on Saturday – all you have to do is go fishing! For more information, or to sign up, go to today.
