The 11th annual Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Show is happening this weekend, August 9-11, 2013, in Rockland, Maine.

Now, despite the name of our blog post, we want to warn you upfront that this is not exactly a pet-friendly event. And by not exactly, I mean not at all. The show website, which advertises their fun-loving Boatyard Dog Trials, also explicitly states, “No pets allowed on show ground—please leave them at home.” That being said, the weekend is filled with fun for the whole (rest of the) family…

About the Boat Show

Beautiful boats in the water, and an eclectic mix of items for life afloat and ashore from hundreds of exhibitors will be on display at this combination boat show and coastal lifestyle event. All types of boats, including rowing craft and kayaks, runabouts and sailboats, power yachts and cruisers, will be on display.

Have you been to the show before? Then you’ll be interested to see that there will also be two new dockside features this year. At the new Demo Docks, some power and sailing craft will be at the ready for sea trials. Visitors can make an appointment to climb aboard and experience the ride first-hand. At the new Hall of Fame Docks, a choice fleet of classic yachts will be presented by some of the best brokers on the coast today.

About the Dog Trials

Now, once again, you can’t bring your own dog to the show, but you can come and watch the World Championship Boatyard Dog Trials on Sunday morning, with the kick-off parade at 10:15 a.m. and the trials themselves begin at 10:30 a.m. in the inner harbor with viewing from the sea wall. The competition will feature six pre-selected canines – Chewbacca, Fiona, Gatsby, Huckleberry, Otter, and Ruffles—with Polly, the alternate, jumping in the wings.
