Boat Tax on the Chopping Block?

An email from the Connecticut Marine Trades Association (CMTA) today indicated that the state is considering cutting the sales tax it charges on boats, motors and trailers.

ConnecticutThe email stated that a hearing on the tax-cut initiative, which has been in the works for approximately two years, is scheduled for this Thursday, March 9 2017, by the Finance, Bonding and Revenue Committee of the State of CT.

No other details were available from the CMTA, however, an article from The Log last week stated that Connecticut has three different proposals on the table to either “decrease or eliminate sales tax on vessels and trailers.”

With Connecticut’s economy still in what some are calling “slow recovery mode”, and the recent election of our pro-business president, perhaps this legislation has a chance of moving forward to give the state’s boating industry a boost.
